As we previously mentioned, you may have noticed that this Summer the number of available Glassware has increased. We have told you about Glossaic, a new social network dedicated exclusively to Glass Explorers, which allows you to share your #throughglass pictures and videos with the entire world. We also told you about What’s Around, a Glassware that shows nearby landmarks (restaurants, gas stations and hospitals) and orients you with a compass reading but also provides a rating and the distance from these landmarks. Both of them are useful apps and in this article we will tell you about another new Glassware that you will find very useful.

The app in question is named RedLaser. You may be familiar with the name; you may even know the smartphone RedLaser app. RedLaser is a free shopping app for iPhone, Windows Phones, and Android that has been downloaded over 30 million times. RedLaser started as an iPhone app and four years ago, after reaching two million downloads worldwide, the app was bought by eBay, the company that manages eBay.com (an online auction and shopping website in which people and businesses buy and sell a broad variety of goods and services worldwide). Now RedLaser is eBay’s first Google Glass app, helping Glass Explorers with shopping.

For those of you not familiar with the app, RedLaser is a barcode Scanner, shopping assistant & QR code reader and it allows you to search for products, stores and deals, compare prices and see reviews, find coupons or the best deal of the day, etc. As explained by eBay, RedLaser is “The leading shopping and price comparison app that helps +30 million users to shop smarter is now available on Glass – turning you into the ultimate shopper! With RedLaser for Glass you will be able to easily compare prices of thousands of online and local retailers just by scanning a product’s barcode right from your Glass. Ask Glass to find a product to quickly locate available stores, navigate to a nearby local store or even purchase online by sending yourself an email notification to complete the transaction on any mobile device or PC you own“.

The RedLaser Glassware once installed will offer two additional “OK Glass” voice commands. These new commands are Scan Product and Find Product. The Find Product command makes use of voice to search and you can expect the usual glitches from voice recognition software, even though Google’s voice recognition software is better than other companies’. Even so, if you are persistent you shouldn’t have too many problems finding the products that you are interested in. The other command, Scan Product, is pretty easy to use, though you need to be careful to line the barcode of the product and the viewfinder with precision.

Once you have searched for a product, or maybe scanned its barcode, RedLaser offers lots of information, such as the nearby stores where you can find the product and its price at each of these stores; the app will also tell you how to get to each of the stores and also online stores that have the product (and the prices that each of the online stores features) with the option to send an email to yourself as a reminder of that store. RedLaser glassware also features an algorithm that displays related products to the one you are interested in, though it is not as perfect as the algorithms of big online stores.

All in all, RedLaser offers quite a lot of options, many of them customizable and it bombards you with information about the product that you are looking for. Even if you never used the original smartphone RedLaser app, you will find this glassware very useful, especially if you are used to shop online a lot or if you always want to get the best deal for a product.
